When Nature Takes Over

Rain. Wind. Fire. While these might automatically make you think of a superhero’s powers, they are certainly powerful in the fact that at any given moment, they can make a huge impact on America’s roadways.

Natural Disasters Strike

According to the “Natural News,” the occurrence of natural disasters is up more than 400 percent in the last two decades. Natural disasters include floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other geologic processes.

In the blink of an eye, when a natural disaster hits, roads and bridges can be instantly destroyed. Especially during earthquakes, a road’s infrastructure can sustain an enormous amount of damage. As the soil is ripped apart beneath it, the road quickly faults and buckles.

Scouring, which occurs during floods, is when the soil surrounding a bridge is washed downstream. This causes the foundation of the bridge to grow weak, and—in turn—can cause the bridge to break. Debris from a flood can also cause severe damage to the bridge’s foundation, making it frail and unsafe for cars to pass. In addition, flooding weakens the pavement of roads, prohibiting cars from making their way from point A to point B.

While most towns do their part to maintain the roads as much as possible, things happen. Fortunately, with a team of dedicated, hard workers, we are able to help find a solution for any situation.
