Watch Out for Trick-or-Treaters! | Wright Brothers Contracting
According to Safe Kids Worldwide, on average, twice as many child pedestrians are killed while walking on Halloween compared with any other days of the year. As a result, the team at Wright Brothers Contracting wants to share some safety tips for both drivers and pedestrians this Halloween.
Up Your Safety Knowledge for Halloween
While we may still have a few weeks until the trick-or-treating begins, it’s never too early to start practicing safety on the roads in preparation of the trick-or-treaters who will soon be out and about.
If you’re part of a group taking the kids out to trick-or-treat, make sure you park your car in a well-lit area with other cars. This helps ensure that you and your kids are safe and surrounded by others when leaving and returning to the parking area.
If your kids are in dark costumes, put safety reflective tape on their costumes so that they can easily be seen by cars driving by. Even if your child isn’t wearing too dark of a costume, some reflective tape wouldn’t hurt. That way you don’t have to worry about whether he or she has her flashlight, especially since chances are that the flashlight will be left behind before the candy bag.
If you’re driving during Halloween night, make sure your headlights are on and that you are watching the speed limit, especially when going through neighborhoods where there are sure to be trick-or-treaters around. While you shouldn’t be using any technology while driving, it’s especially important to avoid any distractions while on the road with people celebrating Halloween. You never know when one ghost or goblin might be crossing the street without looking.
