Put Safety Into Your Spring!

Although we may have some cold days here and there, it seems like spring has finally made her sweet arrival back into our lives! And while we definitely welcome the warmer days with open arms, there are some safety concerns that workers within the construction industry need to take into account each day on the job site with the spring season upon us.

Spring Safety 101

With hypothermia, frostbite, and overall coldness no longer an issue now that spring is here, there are other safety concerns that are now coming back into play with the warmer weather.

For starters, there is something behind “April showers,” and they seem to begin in March. While for you these showers may bring flowers, for us rain means a possible delay in production or more obstacles with a project, as well as the risk of injury on the job site due to the potential of slips and falls because of mud on the bottom of our boots from stepping on and off equipment.

The ground’s foundation due to the weather change can also cause the need for more steps in safety, especially when on slopes. It is important to know what your equipment can and cannot do, as each machine has its own limitations. And—as always—seat belt, seat belt, seat belt! Just because you are not driving a car on the road, it does not mean you don’t need to wear a safety belt while on the job site!

Protective sunglasses are also important during this time in order to protect your eyes from debris, as well as from the glaring sun.
