Keep Your Team Safe This Summer | Wright Brothers Contracting

The team at Wright Brothers Contracting wants to spread the word on the importance of making sure employees stay safe, especially during the hot summer months.

Protect Your Employees

The summer heat doesn’t mess around, and it doesn’t take mercy on those who are at work outdoors. As a result, it’s important that certain precautions are taken to ensure your employees stay safe from the blazing heat this summer.

First, make sure leaders of your team are closely supervising employees, especially to gauge how they’re handling the days now that the weather’s warming up. Are they drinking enough water? Do they seem to maintain their energy throughout the day? You want to make sure their bodies are adjusting to the heat properly.

In addition, as mentioned above, it’s important that workers receive an adequate amount of water breaks throughout the day. It’s recommended that workers outside drink at least a cup of water every 20 minutes to help stay hydrated throughout the workday. This is especially important since a person can become dehydrated before he or she even feels thirsty.

Second, you should provide areas of shade, along with air conditioning and/or fans, for breaks, so that workers are able to cool down properly in the summer heat. You may also want to adjust the dress code to allow for clothing that’s weather-appropriate during the summer.

Finally, be sure to know the signs of heat exhaustion to watch for, including dizziness, headaches, cramps, sweaty skin, nausea and vomiting, weakness, and a fast heartbeat. Should an employee begin exhibiting any of these symptoms, make sure he or she is seen by a medical professional immediately.
