Are Your Work Habits Toxic? | Wright Brothers Contracting

Here at Wright Brothers Contracting, we believe that our best work comes from a team effort. And having an effective team requires every teammate to give his or her best. That’s why this month, we’d like to encourage you to say goodbye to the bad habits—and hello to the good ones.

Say Goodbye to Workplace Bad Habits

First, quit comparing yourself to others. Focus on yourself and your role in the company. If you want to move forward, then you need to quit focusing on others and start focusing on yourself—your wants and needs when it comes to your career. Remember, life is a marathon. It isn’t a sprint. Just because you’re going at one pace and your colleague is going at another doesn’t mean that either of you are right or wrong. It just means you’re on different paths to get where you’re going.

In the same token, make sure you’re actively listening. Look at your coworkers when they’re speaking and acknowledge what they’re saying with your body language and words. It’s especially important to listen when you have asked a question. If you don’t have a clear idea of what is expected of you on a given project, then you won’t be able to make it as successful as you could’ve if you’d listened carefully to the answer to your questions.

Finally—and most important—don’t procrastinate. Just don’t do it. It isn’t good for you, and it’s not good for the company. It increases your chances of missing something important, as well as not performing to the best of your ability. If needed, break a bigger project down into smaller tasks in order to stay motivated, as well as not feel as overwhelmed.

Are you ready to be a part of our success story? Join the Wright Brothers Contracting team! We’re on the job site each and every day to get the work done without the toxic habits. Here, we support each other.
